The trailer for Gladiators, the documentary that follows Ajith Kumar's racing career, released theatrically on Sunday. Audiences hooted and clapped for the trailer at multiple theatres, expressing their admiration for the superstar. The excitement has to do partly with the long time since the release of Ajith's previous film, Good Bad Ugly, which hit theatres in April last year.
The Gladiators trailer mixes footage of Ajith Kumar racing on circuits with those close to him, including wife Shalini and his children, speaking about his personality and passion for motorsports. At one point, Shalini says that Ajith came back to racing not out of a compulsion to win big but rather for his passion. "He returned to racing not to win major trophies but for those seconds where he would feel nothing is impossible," Shalini says in the trailer.
Also the documentary's producer, Shalini revealed that she feels nervous when Ajith is on the race track but want to back him and his passionate pursuit.
Praising his personality, she said, "I have never seen him getting scared of failure. He has never expected an overnight success."
Elsewhere, Ajith Kumar can be seen saying, "It is a beautiful sport. I love it."
Meanwhile, Ajith's daughter says that she admires her father for "the person he is and the values he raised me with." At the same time, his son recalled his first instance of sitting in his father's car. "I was really surprised by how he manages in that," the actor's son says.
The documentary also features commentary about Ajith from his racing team members and the likes of Narain Karthikeyan, who is known for his stint in Formula One. Directed by Vijay of Deiva Thirumagal and Saivam fame, it is expected to release theatrically in the near future. Meanwhile, composer GV Prakash said that its original soundtrack, titled Born to RACE, will come out soon. Thanking the audience for "the amazing response for the background score in Gladiators," Prakash said that the documentary is for Ajith's fans.
