GV Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar-starrer Immortal has opened to a modest response at the Tamil Nadu box office. The Mariyappan Chinna directorial, which hit screens on Friday (September 4), recorded an India net collection of Rs 95 lakh on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The film registered an overall gross of Rs 1.10 crore, with no overseas collections reported so far.

The fantasy-horror film was screened across 972 shows on its first day and recorded an overall occupancy of around 26 per cent. The film reportedly witnessed better footfall during its night shows, contributing significantly to its opening-day numbers.

Immortal revolves around Magi (GV Prakash), a bachelor who moves into an apartment and becomes drawn to his neighbour Sindhu (Kayadu Lohar). What begins as an attraction takes a disturbing turn when supernatural events unfold around him, leaving him trapped in a nightmarish situation. The film has been described by the makers as a fantasy thriller, with the trailer offering glimpses of an unusual romance that takes a horror-driven turn.

An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "For all its flaws, Immortal is coherent and sticks to a singular plot point. The film, with its share of dips, highs, or the lack of both, is fairly engaging. GV Prakash can carry some momentum from the film, which impressively avoids the regular peekaboo scare tactics of Tamil cinema. Immortal ultimately works better as a contained tale of seduction, entrapment and escape than as a vampire origin story."

The film marks director Mariyappan Chinna’s feature debut following his association with Jackpot. Sam CS has composed the music, while Arun Radhakrishnan and Rajesh M have handled cinematography and editing, respectively. Arunkumar Dhanasekaran has produced the film under the AK Film Factory banner. The supporting cast includes TM Karthik, Lollu Sabha Maaran, Kumar Natarajan, Aaditya Kathir, Arshu Maharjan and others.
