The makers of Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 have reaffirmed the film’s theatrical release date, putting to rest speculation that the sequel could be postponed. Sun Pictures took to social media on Wednesday to share a new poster confirming that the Nelson directorial will hit theatres on October 15.
The release date had previously been announced by the makers, but reports of reshoots had recently led to speculation that the film’s theatrical plans could be pushed. The latest update from Sun Pictures, however, indicates that the sequel remains on track for its October release.
Jailer 2 marks Nelson and Rajinikanth’s return after their 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The sequel was officially announced in January 2025 and went on floors two months later. After an extended production schedule, filming was wrapped in April this year. The makers recently unveiled the film's first single, 'Ala Bolelo', featuring a special appearance by Shamna Kkasim.
Sun Pictures is backing the film, with Kalanithi Maran presenting it. Several actors from the first instalment are returning, including Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu and Jaffer Saadiq. The sequel also features Suraj Venjaramoodu, Bagavathi Perumal, Tamizh, Jatin Sarna, Meghana Raj Sarja and Bjorn Surrao, among others. There have also been reports of Hrithik Roshan, SJ Suryah and Mithun Chakraborty being part of the film, though their involvement has not been officially confirmed.
Anirudh Ravichander is returning as the composer, marking his sixth collaboration with Rajinikanth and fifth with Nelson. Vijay Kartik Kannan is the cinematographer, with R Nirmal handling the edit, Drk Kiran serving as art director and Chethan D’Souza choreographing the action.
Also scheduled for release around the same time is Dhanush's Om: Chapter 1, helmed by Rajkumar Periasamy. Slated for October 16, both Jailer 2 and Om have been planned to capitalise on the Navaratri pooja holidays.
