Rajinikanth's latest theatrical outing, Jailer 2, which marks the sequel to his 2023 outing of the same name, is running with packed houses in theatres across the world. Helmed by Nelson, the sequel sees the return of Rajinikanth as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff, among others.
Six days after the film's release, the sequel has earned nearly Rs 540 crores worldwide, beating the record of Jailer. Even as the film is on its way to script box office history, it has hit a minor obstacle in Canada. The film's Canadian distributor has now announced that the film's screenings have been indefinitely halted.
In a press note, York Cinemas, the Cannada distributors, said, "We regret to inform you that Jailer 2 will no longer be screening at York Cinemas effective Wednesday, October 21, 2026. This decision is due to circumstances beyond the control of York Cinemas."
The distributors further explained that issues between them and the film's producers and some technical snags have caused the halt in screening. "Although York Cinemas has fulfilled all required financial commitments and payments, the valid KDMS (Key Delivery Messages) required to continue screening the film have not been provided by the North American distributors, Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas, following the required authorisation from the production company, Sun Pictures," the note read. It is still unclear when the film's screening will continue in Canada.
Rajinikanth and the cast of Jailer are joined by a slew of new stars in the sequel, including Namo Narayana, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, SJ Suryah, Vijay Sethupathi, Jackie Shroff, Apeksha Porwal, Mithun Chakraborty, and Hakkim Shah. The story resumes from 2023's Jailer with Rajinikanth returning as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the retired jailer who is now leading a quiet life running a supermarket near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. This existence of his is shattered by the sudden return of an erstwhile adversary, forcing him to go back to his lethal old ways to safeguard his family and defend his hard-earned legacy.
Backed by producer Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer 2 reunites the core technical team of the original, including music director Anirudh, cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan, and editor R Nirmal.
