The Tamil Nadu government has passed an order allowing theatres in the state to schedule six shows per day and to schedule shows from 6 am to 02.30 am on the next day for newly released films, for a week since the day of the film's release. The order also mentions that these stipulations can also be followed for weekends, state festive holidays and public holidays.

The TN government passed the new order after accepting petitions from the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, Tamil Film Producer Council, and the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association, who submitted various petitions.

Earlier, under the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Rules, 1957 (framed under the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1955), allowed theatres in the state to schedule four shows per day.

In May this year, the newly formed government permitted for an extra 'special show' on weekends, state festive holidays and public holidays.

The new order is expected to be implemented beginning with new releases for the upcoming Diwali festival.
