Actor-politician Suresh Gopi has weighed in on Vijay’s rise as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and the growing expansion plans of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in Keralam. Suresh Gopi has been serving as the minister of state for petroleum and natural gas and the minister of tourism since June 2024 in Keralam.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Suresh Gopi said it was far too early to judge Vijay’s performance as chief minister, stressing that the actor-turned-politician deserves time to govern. “Let Chief Minister Vijay work. Let him work and prove himself. It would not be right to criticise him before that,” he said.
The BJP leader also welcomed TVK’s reported plans to expand its organisational presence in Keralam. Responding to questions about the party entering the state, he said, “If he is coming, let him come. Let him come anywhere he wants and start. Let everyone come and benefit the world and the Tamil people.”
Vijay was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s 13th Chief Minister on May 10 after his party emerged as the single-largest force in the Assembly elections with 108 seats. The victory marked a dramatic political shift in the state, ending the decades-long dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu politics. TVK later secured support from Congress, left parties, VCK and IUML to form the government.
Meanwhile, TVK has begun laying the groundwork for a wider political footprint beyond Tamil Nadu. The party already has units functioning in parts of Kerala, including Wayanad and Palakkad, and recently launched its district unit in Thrissur as part of its expansion plans in the state.
On the work front, Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, is yet to hit theatres. A release around the actor's birthday on June 22 is being speculated. Suresh Gopi, on the other hand, was last seen in JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala. He has Ottakkomban, Varaham, and Oru Perumgaliyattam in various stages of production.
