At the press meet of his upcoming film Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai, actor Jai addressed why the film has references to actor-turned-chief minister Vijay and his films.

He said, "Many people said that the film had resemblance to the honourable Chief Minister Vijay Anna. It is because I play a fan of his in the film. So there will be scenes where I speak like him, taking on his body language. But that is only in the first half. The second half has an impactful screenplay." Helmed by Babu Vijay, the film stars Meenakshi Govindharajan as the female lead.

The previously released trailer of Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai shows Jai falling in love with Meenakshi's character and the two tying the knot. However, fate separates the two, with the latter abducted, which forces the former to get involved in a web of crime. Whether or not he finds his wife and they reunite seems to form the rest of the story. The trailer is complete with a lot of references to actor Vijay's films.

Interestingly, Jai was recently seen campaigning for Vijay's TVK before the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections on April 23. He was also seen hinting to the press at an IPL match that he would be casting his vote for the actor-turned-politician.

Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai is all set to hit theatres on May 15. The film also stars Garuda Ram, Yogi Babu, Sathyan, Sriman, and Aditya Kathir. In a previous conversation with CE, director Babu Vijay said, "The film is a romantic thriller where the protagonist mistakenly gets trapped in the web of crime and ends up incarcerated. The film will be a combination of the sensibilities of a Vetri Maaran film, a Murugadoss film and a Mani Ratnam film," he says.

Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai has cinematography by Richard M Nathan, music by Girishh Gopalakrishnan, editing by Darling Richardson, art direction by Kannan, and stunts by Murali G. Upon its release, it will clash with Suriya-RJ Balaji's Karuppu at the box office. Also starring Trisha, Karuppu will open in theatres on May 14, a day before Jai's film.
