Vijay has been making the headlines, back-to-back, from the beginning of the year, thanks to Jana Nayagan and his political race. While he recently faced the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections, his final film, helmed by H Vinoth, has consistently been in the news ever since it was leaked online on April 9.
First, the film's release, scheduled for January 9, was postponed after the Central Board for Film Certification withheld the film's censor certificate. Following a legal battle, the makers decided to withdraw the case, awaiting clearance from the CBFC for the film's release. With the elections completed and the results scheduled for Monday, speculations are rife that the film will be scheduled for release in May.
Meanwhile, Jana Nayagan's piracy has caused a huge loss for the makers, as the film was not only leaked online but was also shared repeatedly on social media. As per several reports, the OTT deal for the film, which was initially dropped after the film's postponement, has further been reduced due to the film's piracy.
Now, reports are emerging that actor-politician Vijay has returned his remuneration for the film to the producer in order to make up for the piracy. While these reports are yet to be confirmed, veteran actor Ambika has taken to her X to praise Vijay for the same. She wrote, "Hearing news about Vijay giving back his remuneration to the producer. If that is true, it is the greatest gesture.." (sic)
While Vijay and Ambika have not shared the screen, the actor has appeared in Naan Sigappu Manithan, in which the latter starred alongside Rajinikanth. Notably, the film was helmed by Vijay's father, SA Chandrasekhar.
On the investigation front, the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai refused bail to nine individuals accused in the Jana Nayagan movie leak case, noting that the investigation is still at an early stage and that the wider conspiracy needs to be fully uncovered through a detailed probe.
