Actor-director Sundar C, who recently made his foray into the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, contesting in the Madurai Central constituency, recently revealed that he will step away from cinema if he wins in the elections and will dedicate his life full time, serving as the MLA to his constituency. For the unversed, he represented the Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Speaking to Rangaraj Pandey for Behindwoods TV, the director was probed about his future plans if he wins in the elections. "When Vijay entered politics, he said that Jananayagan would be his last film and that he would not act anymore. If you become an MLA, what will we do?" he was asked. Replying to this, Sundar C said, "If I win, my life will be entirely devoted to being the MLA of Madurai Central. I will move away from cinema. Mookuthi Amman 2 has been completed, and Purushan still has half of its shoot remaining. Politics is not a part-time job. My needs are very minimal. I do not wish to comment on others."

Elsewhere in the interview Sundar C opined on Ajith joining politics after Vijay. "If someone else from the film industry were to enter politics, I would definitely urge Ajith Kumar sir to consider it. I had the chance to interact with him personally years ago, and he is deeply concerned about society, even if he comes across as reserved in public. In politics, it’s not just about who enters, but who people are willing to listen to — and Ajith holds that kind of influence," he added.

Besides Tamil Nadu, election results for Puducherry, Assam, West Bengal and Kerala are also set to be declared today. Postal ballots are currently being counted in Tamil Nadu. Final picture of the election results will be declared by 5 pm on Monday.

On the film front, Sundar C was last seen in Gangers (2025), and is currently engaged in filming of Vishal's upcoming project Purushan, which marks his reunion with the actor after Aambala and Madha Gaja Raja. He also has Mookuthi Amman 2, the sequel to RJ Balaji's 2020 comedy film in the pipeline. Nayanthara is reprising her role as the titular character for the upcoming sequel. Sundar C is also set to join hands with filmmaker Dhorai VZ once again for an upcoming horror-thriller. The yet-to-be-titled film will mark their third collaboration after Iruttu (2019) and Thalainagaram 2 (2023).
