Director Vignesh Raja's Kara, starring Dhanush in the lead role, opened in theatres on April 30 to mostly positive reviews. After four days of its release, the film has grossed around 23 crore from theatres in India, according to Sacnilk data. Its collection dropped from 6.95 on Saturday to 5.20 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the film's assistant director Naveen Rajkumar shared a behind-the-scenes video. "During Kara shoot, one unexpected moment turned into pure cinema magic," the assistant director began. He added, "Dhanush sir had just finished a long car + drone shot, his team had gone way ahead to avoid disturbance. No contact, no ride back. Then he spots the RX100 we used for the shoot — the same one I was riding."
Dhanush told Naveen that he would ride the bike. The assistant director discouraged him from riding it, cautioning the actor of a faulty brake. However, Dhanush smiled at the assistant director, told him that he would take care of it and rode the bike, with his co-star Karunas in the pillion seat.
"Next second: Karunas sir behind him, 2 ADs on another bike… and there he goes. Straight-up Thiruda Thirudi vibes," Naveen wrote, referring to Dhanush's 2003 film, written and directed by Subramaniam Siva.
Speaking of bikes, at a recent promotional event for Kara, a woman kneeled down in front of the actor out of her admiration for him and presented him with a motorcycle number plate that references the respective number of his character's bike in Polladhavan. At the event, Dhanush described the 2007 film as a 'turning point' in his career. The actor said that the film changed people's impression of him as a 'thin' actor. "They clapped for my body for the first time as I sported a six-pack in Polladhavan," the actor said.
For the unversed, the Dhanush character's search for his missing Pulsar bike is one of the key plot elements of Polladhavan. Now, the Kara BTS shows that the actor has a fascination for bikes beyond the reel life as well.
