Actor-turned-politician Vijay on Sunday rolled out the list of candidates for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, using the moment to sharpen his party’s campaign message around governance and accountability.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief also confirmed that he will be contesting from two constituencies, Trichy East and Perambur in Chennai, marking a significant step in his political debut.
Positioning his party as a serious challenger, Vijay cast the upcoming polls as a direct contest with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by Chief Minister M K Stalin. His campaign pitch centred on clean administration and a break from what he described as entrenched political practices.
Making a direct appeal to voters, Vijay said, “I urge the people to vote for TVK and our ‘Whistle’ symbol. We are here only for the people, and always for the people.”
He also outlined key promises, stressing that his party would prioritise transparency and public welfare if elected. “After winning, I promise that we will never misuse public money or indulge in corruption. We will ensure women’s safety, create a drug-free Tamil Nadu, and maintain strict law and order,” he said, adding, “I assure you, we will never act against the interests of the people of this state. This is my promise.”
Seeking public support, Vijay emphasised that he is asking voters for “one opportunity” to prove his party’s commitment to governance.
Meanwhile, on the film front, the actor is awaiting the release of his final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. The project may face additional review, with reports suggesting possible scrutiny from the Election Commission following recommendations involving the censor authorities.
