Sundar C is stepping into politics after three decades in the film industry. In a key development ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, the actor-filmmaker-producer has been named as the candidate for the Madurai Central constituency, representing the Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), in alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Hence, he will be contesting under AIADMK's 'two-leaves' symbol. The seat has been allocated to the newly formed PNK, headed by AC Shanmugam, which announced the decision on Saturday.

Sundar C's entry marks a significant moment in Tamil Nadu politics, as he joins a long list of film personalities who have made their foray to mainstream politics. The latest was actor Vijay who created the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and is now actively campaigning for votes across the state ahead of elections which is scheduled to take place on April 23. However, Sundar C is not far away from politics as his wife and renowned actor-producer Khushbu Sundar has been active in the field since since 2010. She joined BJP in 2020 and is currently serving as the vice-president of the party in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, BJP is expected to make an official announcement on March 30 regarding the constituencies allotted to the Neethi Party under the NDA alliance, along with the names of the candidates contesting from those seats.

The recent press note announcing Sundar C's candidature

On the work front, Sundar C was last seen in Gangers (2025), and is currently engaged in filming of Vishal's upcoming project Purushan, which marks his reunion with the actor after Aambala and Madha Gaja Raja.

He is also set to join hands with filmmaker Dhorai VZ once again for an upcoming horror-thriller. The yet-to-be-titled film will mark their third collaboration after Iruttu (2019) and Thalainagaram 2 (2023).
