The actor-director combinations in any industry are a much talked about topic when film industries of any language are in focus. In Tamil, one such continuous collaboration is of Vijay Sethupathi and director M Manikandan. Their latest project is Muthu Engira Kaattaan, which will consist of ten episodes, and is set to premiere on JioHotstar on March 27.

Speaking at the pre-release event for the series, the actor said, "The relationship between Manikandan and me, happened one day by chance. I had a friend called Vinod, who recommended me to him for a short film. When Manikandan called me to meet, I said, 'I look better in pictures than in real life, so please take a look at my photos first.'"

He added, "Manikandan perceives things differently than an average person. Everybody who has worked with him knows that this unique view that he has makes him understand something and how to handle it, immediately. From handling actors, to writing on projects the thought behind him working on things might seem superficial but on deeper analysis, I have realised the level of thought, this took. He surprises people with his deep thought. I know him from 2008. But even today his work continues to surprise me. he has given me great padams (films) and paadams (lessons)."

After Aandavan Kattalai (2016) and Kadaisi Vivasayi (2022) Vijay Sethupathi reunites with director M Manikandan, who has also created the series. Editor B Ajithkumar serves as a director on the series, is also on board as an editor. Vijay Sethupathi is producing the series under his namesake banner.

The rest of the crew includes Madhu Neelakandan as the director of photography, Jacki and Sabu Mohan as the art directors.

Muthu Engira Kaattaan features Milind Soman, Sudev Nair, Vadivel Murugan, Risha Jacobs, VJ Paaru, Kalaivani Bhaskar, and Muthukumar, among its cast.
