Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who was recently seen in the Prime Video film The Bluff, co-starring Karl Urban, recently spoke about her debut film in Indian cinema, the Tamil film Thamizhan. While Priyanka is now doing Hollywood films and is also onboard the SS Rajamouli magnum opus, Varanasi, she started out with Abdul Majith's directorial venture, headlined by Vijay.
Speaking on the Not Skinny but Not Fat podcast about working with Vijay and his stardom back in 2002, Priyanka said, "Thamizhan was my first exposure to a little bit of fame. My co-actor, Vijay, is extremely popular. I remember when I went on sets; I would find hundreds and hundreds of people lined up there just to watch him while he was dancing or doing his thing. It was my very first movie, and I had no idea what happens behind the scenes. I remember looking at his fan following on that set and thinking about what a demigod feeling that must be. Especially in India, where people love their movies and the fans are very giving with their passion."
Thamizhan was not only Priyanka Chopra Jonas' first Tamil film, but also her only film in the language to date. The film also stars Nassar, Revathi and Vivek in prominent roles. Vijay stars as Surya, a straightforward advocate who keeps his faith in the legal system but loses his sister and brother-in-law in his fight for justice. How he still continues believing in and fighting for justice forms the crux of the story.
Up next, Priyanka will be seen alongside Will Ferrell and Zac Efron in Judgement Day. She is also filming for Varanasi alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Vijay, on the other hand, is still awaiting the release of his final film, Jana Nayagan, which is yet to see the light of day due to censorship issues.
