Parthiban, who was recently at the centre of a controversy surrounding his remarks made on fellow actor Trisha, has now clarified his comments and called Trisha's statements on him as "baseless lies".
The actor-director recently issued an apology for his "unintentional" and "inadvertent" comments that he made about Trisha at an awards function. He had said that the '96 actor should "sit at home" to avoid any problems, a word play on 'Kundhavai', Trisha's character from Ponniyin Selvan. Trisha had later, without mentioning Parthiban, hit back at his "crude words". "A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder," she said, noting that she was informed that her name and photo were included at the "last minute" at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant.
Replying to her statements, Parthiban has now shared a video, explaining his stance and the events leading up the comments. "A mistake is doing something unknowingly; a wrongdoing is doing something willingly. A person who has made a mistake, should rectify his actions while a person who has been in the wrong, should express his sorrow. In the same way, me expressing my sorrow is one thing, while sharing my apology is another thing," he began his video.
Parthiban explained, "When I was talking about Vijay and Ajith Kumar, Trisha’s photo appeared. I really didn’t know what to talk about and I was shocked, in fact. It is being portrayed that I was trying to blame her, which is 100 per cent lies. I am not a slave to anyone and I have never been paid by anyone to go to an event, and I will never do that until my death. I won’t join any political party or do anything wrong for money."
He further added that if he wanted to talk about women, he would have spoken about Velu Nachiyar, Diana Charles, or even Mother Teresa to commemorate Women's Day. Parthiban reiterated that he did not know what to say when her picture came on screen and that's when he said those words. "When I was seated at the function, I was watching a video of Valaipechu Anthanan where he was talking about the height of Vijay's success and the position at which he is in. Trisha, who is over 40 years old, should have said she would not come to the reception with Vijay as his image would be tarnished. She could have stayed home. Like this, many comments came from many people," he elaborated.
Sharing his thoughts on Vijay's stardom, Parthiban said that the actor-politician has crossed several hurdles to reach at his current position. "Even in the Karur stampede, he wasn’t impacted this much; he was only criticised. But this wedding reception has caused a lot of damage to him, and Trisha should not have attended the wedding reception. That’s my inner thought, but I didn’t go on stage to say that," he said, adding, "So when it came suddenly, I just said, ‘Kundhavai veetlaye Kundhaviya irukalam, veliya vandhaal evvalo prachanai aagudhu.’ I said this with a lot of angst. That’s why even Samuthirakani recently lashed out at Vijay."
Concluding his statements, Parthiban said he is talking about someone who is not related to him in the third person and the first two are Vijay and his "legal wife" Sankgeetha. "I don’t have any reason to talk about a third woman. I was only saddened because I felt I spoke as if women should stay at home which caused a lot of sorrow," he said.
In the aftermath of the incident, Parthiban said, he expressed his regret and wrote down his words on a letter pad, recorded it and used AI to publish the video. "It got done only in the night. When I published it, I am receiving the post (referring to Trisha's X post). I informed my heartfelt sorrow, but had I known that such a tweet would come, I would have never conveyed my words. After seeing that, it has made me release this video. I have never said she shouldn't oppose my words, but there many negative comments surrounding her in public. If she had replied to everyone, I would have welcomed her outrage against me, but when she only aimed it at me, many on social media are unhappy with me sharing my apologies. They stood with me. Thank you for that," he signed off.
Actor Vijay who is currently in the middle of a legal divorce proceedings from his wife Sankgeetha, has been accused of being in an extra marital affair with an actress, as mentioned by a petition filed by Sankgeetha. While it is not confirmed that Trisha is the actress mentioned, rumours flooding social media point towards Trisha as the actress mentioned. At a recent wedding ceremony, Trisha and Vijay were spotted together, after the rumours started to arise which sent social media into a frenzy, sparking heated debates and discussions.
