Director Sean Baker's 2015 film Tangerine has impressed actor Pooja Hegde so much that she could not help but express her admiration for it with the rest of the world. On Tuesday, the actor took to her Instagram Stories and shared a note of appreciation for the critically acclaimed film, shot entirely with an iPhone. "Raw, real, heartwarming and all shot on a phone camera. Proving that if you have a story to tell, nothing can stop you. It will find the right audience. So INSPIRED, once again, by Sean Baker," Pooja wrote about the film.

Sean Baker took note of her post and shared it on his Instagram Stories space.

Tangerine follows a sex worker named Sin-Dee Rella (Kitana Kiki Rodriguez), who is also a transgender. After learning that her boyfriend cum sex trafficker (James Ransone) has cheated on her when she was serving a jail sentence, Rella embarks on a journey to search and find him alongside her friend (Mya Taylor) so that she can teach him, as well as his new girlfriend, a lesson. The film is made on a modest budget of around $100,000, and it earned much appreciation for its script, performances, and depiction of transgender lives.

While Sean Baker made his directorial debut with Four Letter Words (2000), Tangerine is the film that is considered a major breakthrough in his career. Since then, he has directed critically acclaimed films such The Florida Project (2017), Red Rocket (2021), and the Oscar-winning 2024 film Anora.

Coming back to Pooja Hegde, the actor was most recently seen in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, opposite Varun Dhawan and Mrunal Thakur. She will next be seen in Jana Nayagan, opposite Vijay, Kanchana 4 where she stars alongside Raghava Lawrence, and a film with Dulquer Salmaan.
