It is well known that actors Kavin and Nayanthara are set to star in the upcoming romantic film Hi which marks the directorial debut of lyricist Vishnu Edavan. He has written songs like 'Polakatum Para Para' from Master (2021) and 'Badass' from Leo (2023). While an official synopsis for the film hasn't been released yet, speculations have been rife about the actors, who are romantically involved in the film, having a significant age gap between them, similar to Suriya-Mamitha Baiju's much-anticipated Vishwanath & Sons.

However, the lyricist-turned-director has now debunked the rumours. In a recent interview, he clarified that there was no specific intention to focus on an age gap. "My first focus was to break the barrier in casting. I wanted to create a simple, relatable family-oriented story. In this plot, I wanted a risk factor and that was when this idea of casting these two actors came to my mind," he said.

Vishnu further stated that he wanted to break the traditional age-based casting for female stars. "Be it Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Chiranjeevi or Balayya (Nandamuri Balakrishna), all of them have successfully moved past it. Nayanthara is the 'Lady Superstar'. While she doesn't want to be addressed by that title, I strongly believe she has those qualities. So, why not attribute the same factors and characteristics like we do for the male stars? That was my idea," he added.

The cast of Hi also includes the late writer-actor Bhagyaraj, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Prabhu, VTV Ganesh, Sathyan, Amrutha Srinivasan, Adithya Kathir, Kureshi, FEFSI Vijayan, Kaavya Arivumani, and Mirchi Kemy.

Jen Martin is composing music for the film. The crew also includes cinematographer Rajesh Shukla, editor Philomin Raj, art director Sekar B.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are producing the film under their The Rowdy Pictures banner, aalong with SS Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio banner, with Zee Studios also backing the film.

Hi is slated to release in theatres on August 14.
