Years before setting out to make Sigma, Jason Sanjay was offered the lead role in Alphonse Puthren's film. However, he politely declined the offer and went on to pursue his directorial dreams.

Reflecting on what happened during the time, Jason explained, "When Alphonse sir approached me, I was around 20 years old and still studying. I think he had written a story centered around the adolescent age group. He had apparently seen one of my photos somewhere, and his team reached out to me. At that point, I had no plans of making cinema my career. I was still in the process of discovering what I was good at and what path I wanted to take. So, I wasn't in a position to accept the opportunity."

Jason revealed being hesitant to commit to a renowned director's story "without being fully prepared after listening to it." "So, I told him that he would find an artist who was better suited than me for the role," he added, noting how he felt happy and proud that the Premam director considered him for a film. "It remains a special memory for me," he remarked.

Jason's upcoming film Sigma is described as a "high-stakes heist" film, offering a combination of action, humour, heist, and treasure-hunt elements. The cast also features Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram, Anbu Thasan, Yog Japee, Sampath Raj, Kiran Konda, and Magalakshmi Sudharsanan and others. A release date for the film is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Alphonse Puthren last made Gold in 2022 with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara. Up next, he has two films - Vijayam with Nivin Pauly (which marks their third collaboration) and Gift, a film which was announced in 2023, with music by Ilaiyaraaja. The status of the project remains unknown.
