Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi's Gatta Kusthi 2 continues its impressive theatrical run, posting a strong second weekend despite facing fresh competition from Atharvaa's Idhayam Murali, which released a week later. While trade tracker Sacnilk estimates the film's worldwide gross at Rs 43.63 crore after 10 days, the makers have announced that the sports drama has already crossed the Rs 44.5 crore mark globally.
According to reports, Gatta Kusthi 2 earned Rs 3.70 crore net in India on Day 10 (second Sunday), improving on Saturday's Rs 3.43 crore net. The film registered an overall occupancy of 44 per cent across 1,594 shows, indicating that it retained a sizeable audience even in its second weekend.
By the end of its second Sunday, the film had collected Rs 31.08 crore net in India, with its India gross standing at approximately Rs 34.73 crore. Adding the overseas total of Rs 7.95 crore, the worldwide gross is estimated at Rs 42.68 crore by Day 10, while the makers have pegged the figure at over Rs 44.5 crore.
After ending its first week with Rs 22.10 crore net, Gatta Kusthi 2 witnessed a healthy second-weekend revival. Collections climbed from Rs 1.85 crore on second Friday to Rs 3.43 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.70 crore on Sunday, reflecting strong weekend traction driven by positive word of mouth.
The performance is particularly noteworthy as the film held its ground despite the release of Idhayam Murali on July 10. Atharvaa's romantic drama has made a promising start, collecting Rs 10.70 crore net in India in its first four days and Rs 16.31 crore worldwide gross, but Gatta Kusthi 2 has largely remained the preferred choice at the Tamil Nadu box office.
The Vishnuu Vishal-starrer's second Sunday collection of Rs 3.70 crore net was almost on par with Idhayam Murali's opening Sunday net of Rs 3.80 crore, underlining its sustained audience pull even in its second weekend.
Helmed by Chella Ayyavu, Gatta Kusthi 2 also stars Zara Zyanna, Mokksha, Karunaas, Karunakaran, and Kaali Venkat, among others. On the other hand, Idhayam Murali is directed by Aakash Baskaran and also has Preity Mukhundhan, Kayadu Lohar, Fahadh Faasil, Sudhakar, Rakshan, Dravid Selvam, and Thaman, among others, as a part of its cast.
