Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi's Gatta Kusthi 2, helmed by Chella Ayyavu, continued its steady run at the box office on its first Wednesday, inching closer to the Rs 30 crore mark worldwide.
According to the latest trade figures on Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1.95 crore net in India on Day 6 (Wednesday) across 2,242 shows, recording an overall occupancy of 20 per cent. With this, the film's cumulative India net collection has reached Rs 20.35 crore.
In gross terms, Gatta Kusthi 2 has earned Rs 23.38 crore in India so far. Overseas, the film added Rs 0.50 crore on Wednesday, taking its international gross to Rs 5 crore. The film's worldwide gross now stands at Rs 28.38 crore after six days in theatres.
After opening with Rs 2.70 crore net on Friday, the sports drama witnessed strong weekend growth, collecting Rs 4.95 crore on Saturday and peaking at Rs 6.20 crore on Sunday. As expected, collections tapered during the weekdays, with the film earning Rs 2.35 crore on Monday, Rs 2.20 crore on Tuesday and Rs 1.95 crore on Wednesday. While the weekday trend reflects a gradual decline, the film has maintained a stable hold through its first week.
Gatta Kusthi 2 also stars Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunaas, Munishkanth, Kaali Venkat, Lizzie Antony, Gajaraj, Sreeja Ravi, Karunakaran, Zara Zyanna, and Mokksha, among others. The film features technical work by cinematographer KM Bhaskaran, editor Barath Vikraman and composer Sean Roldan.
An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "Nevertheless, Gatta Kusthi 2 does a lot of things right, especially with the character of Mathi, who talks and behaves like a first-standard girl. She isn’t asked to act much beyond her years, and it is a welcome relief."
With its first-week collections remaining consistent and the worldwide total now approaching Rs 30 crore, Gatta Kusthi 2 will look to capitalise on its second weekend to sustain its theatrical momentum.
