Jiiva’s latest comedy drama, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, has wrapped up its first week-plus run at the box office on a steady note, earning an estimated Rs 19.63 crore India net in eight days, as per a report on Sacnilk.com. Despite a visible slowdown after the festive weekend, the film has emerged as a respectable performer among the Pongal releases, especially considering its modest scale and content-driven positioning.

The Nithish Sahadev directorial opened to Rs Rs 1.5 crore on its first Thursday and saw a sharp jump of 93.33 per cent on Day 2, collecting Rs 2.9 crore. The film continued its upward trajectory into the weekend, minting Rs 5.3 crore on Saturday, followed closely by Rs 5.15 crore on Sunday. The strong weekend surge underscored positive word-of-mouth and family audience turnout during the Pongal holidays.

As expected, collections dipped once the festive period ended. Monday saw a significant drop to Rs 1.65 crore, followed by gradual declines over the next few days. The film earned Rs 1.25 crore on Tuesday, Rs 1.05 crore on Wednesday, and an estimated Rs 0.83 crore on its second Thursday. Despite the slowdown, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil managed to stay above the Rs 1-crore mark for most of the weekdays in its first week, closing Week 1 at Rs 19.63 crore.

Given the competitive Pongal window that included Parasakthi and Vaa Vaathiyaar, the Jiiva-starrer’s performance stands out for its consistency rather than scale. While Parasakthi dominated the box office with blockbuster numbers and Vaa Vaathiyaar struggled to sustain momentum after an initial jump, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil benefited from favourable audience reception and strong weekend growth.

Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil marks Nithish Sahadev’s first Tamil film after the Malayalam hit Falimy (2023). The film stars Jiiva in his 45th outing as a lead actor and features an ensemble cast including Prathana Nathan, Thambi Ramaiah, Ilavarasu, Jenson Dhivakar, Jaiwanth, Savithri, Subash Kannan, Rajesh Pandian, Sarjin Kumar, Amith Mohan, Sharath, and Anuraj OB, among others.

Produced by Kannan and co-produced by Deepak Ravi, the film is written by Nithish Sahadev along with Sanjo Joseph and Anuraj OB. Cinematography is by Bablu Aju, music is composed by Vishnu Vijay, and editing is handled by Arjune Babu, with Vijayakumar Solaimuthu credited for additional dialogue.
