MGR is known for the commitment he showed to social justice, with a special focus on the health and wellbeing of the poor, underprivileged and women. The first Indian actor to become a chief minister, MGR served as the state CM for over nine years in multiple terms and had one of the longest tenures in the post in the state's history.

Thank you for inspiring us to create Vaa Vaathiyaar. Remembering Puratchi Thalaivar MGR on his birth anniversary," wrote the production house that backed the Karthi starrer.
