On Saturday, the makers of Meesaya Murukku 2 dropped a trailer for the upcoming film from actor-writer-director Hiphop Adhi. The trailer promises a colorful entertainer, which explores elements of music, concert cinema, the struggles of youth, and romance. The makers say that it is "based on several true stories."
The Meesaya Murukku 2 trailer begins with a reference to Adhi's character as a hiphop artist. The first film follows his character as an engineering student who deals with familial expectations, industry skepticism, and financial struggles in the pursuit of his passion to make independent hip-hop music. The latest trailer suggests that the follow-up to Meesaya Murukku continues the character's journey of breaking stereotypes, exploring a story with multiple timelines that touches upon classical music as well.
"To wake a generation up to bigger dreams and louder moves," reads the caption to the trailer announcement post from Saregama South.
Produced by Khushbu Sundar of Avni Movies in association with ACS Arun Kumar of Benzz Media Pvt Ltd, Meesaya Murukku 2 also stars Ketika Sharma, Chaithra J Achar, Ramya Ranganathan, Baba Baskar, Harshath Khan, Nasser, and Karunas.
Besides starring in and directed the film from his screenplay, with additional dialogues by Karan Karky and Nithish D, Hiphop Adhi also serves as its lyricist and composer. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Balaji Subramanyam, editors Fenny Oliver and Thirumalai Rajan, costume designer Poornima Ramaswamy, and art director VS Dinesh Kumar.
The film is coming to theatres nine years after the release of the first part, Meesaya Murukku, which is regarded as a commercial success. As Adhi himself said on its ninth anniversary, "What started as a dream became an emotion for millions." It brings the actor-director back to a franchise whose first film marked his directorial debut. Scheduled for a September 25 release in theatres, it is set to be the actor-filmmaker's first release since 2024's Kadaisi Ulaga Por.
