Actor Dhanush, who was last seen in Tere Ishk Mein, directed by Aanand L. Rai, is currently busy with a promising line-up of projects including Vignesh Raja's Kara, and Rajkumar Periasamy's D55. Following these projects, Dhanush is once again reuniting with Mari Selvaraj after Karnan (2021) for D56, a project that has sparked significant anticipation since its announcement. While details regarding the project were kept under wraps, the Bison director has now revealed that production for D56 will commence in September.
Sharing further details about the much-awaited film, Mari Selvaraj, during a recent press meet, noted that it would be a "fantasy, historical, and political film." and would be the "biggest project" of his career.
In an earlier event, he said, "There is a foundational starting point set many years ago that eventually led to films like Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan, Maamannan, Vaazhai, and Bison. What if someone were to trace that root back to its very beginning and attempt to erase it altogether? That forms the core of this narrative. This project demands a massive creative and technical process. Dhanush sir told me that it should become the biggest film of both our careers."
D56 will have music by AR Rahman and is being backed by Dr Ishari K Ganesh's Vels Film International. It will mark Rahman’s reunion with Mari Selvaraj after Maamannan(2023) and with Dhanush after Raayan(2024). Rahman has also composed for Dhanush’s films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021).
According to reports, Sai Pallavi is all set to join the cast of the upcoming film as the female lead. However, official confirmation is awaited. If reports are true, it will mark Dhanush and Sai Pallavi's second collaboration after Maari 2.
Meanwhile, Ishari K Ganesh is also backing Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja of Por Thozhil fame in his sophomore directorial which is slated for an April 30 release in theatres.
His next, D55 with Rajkumar Periasamy stars an ensemble cast consisting of Mammootty, Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela.
