Writer-director Mathimaran Pugazhendhi's film Mandaadi, starring Soori, has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Censor Board. Thus, the film has taken one more step towards releasing on its scheduled date of September 10, Thursday. Its release was scheduled for September 04 earlier but has since been pushed to 10 instead. According to the censorship information, the film has a runtime of 154 minutes and 51 seconds.
Mandaadi stars RDX fame Mahima Nambiar in the female lead; the actor comes back to Tamil cinema with it after 2023's Naadu. The upcoming film also stars Suhas, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan, and Stun Siva, among others. It has dialogues by Ameer Jamal Khan and Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, with additional writing by R Mohanavasanthan and Thiral Sankar.
An action drama with sports elements, the film has been in development for well over a year now. Its production has faced delays due to filming challenges, with the team choosing open-water shoot off coast of Ramanathapuram. They also encountered a major accident in which a production boat capsized, contributing to considerable equipment loss.
Mathimaran Pugazhendhi made his directorial debut with 2022's Selfie, starring GV Prakash, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Varsha Bollamma. Mandaadi also has GV Prakash but in the capacity of its music director.
Produced by Elred Kumar under the RS Infotainment banner, the film's technical team also includes cinematographer SR Kathir, editor Pradeep E Ragav, and production designer DRK Kiran. Reportedly featuring high-octane stunts in the ocean, the film's action choreographers include Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan, and Mahesh Mathew.
Last seen in 2025's Maaman, Soori's upcoming projects include Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, directed by Ram and co-starring Nivin Pauly and Anjali.
