During the success meet event of the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Baththa, director Atlee opened up about his dream project. He revealed that he had always wanted to make a film starring Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathi.
"I have always wished to make a film with Kamal sir and Vijay Sethupathi anna. I am very curious to see how these two brains will function, when clubbed together in a single engine. When this happens, it will be a blockbuster. I think some day this will happen. We will work towards it," said the director.
He continued by saying, "I want to make Marudhanayagam. I have ideas for little things that will make up Marudhanayagam's story. If Vijay Sethupathi anna acts in that film, you wouldn't know the type of character he is playing, just that the story will be good. The film will be the hero."
Atlee also said, "You cannot limit him within a circle, so if he is making a story it is good. Someday we will make a film and do it well. I want to make Marudhanayagam with Kamal sir and Vijay Sethupathi anna. Someone narrated an idea to me. When I get to a place where I can arrange a budget to make this film, I will definitely do this."
For the uninitiated Marudhanayagam is a shelved film which was written, directed, and headlined by Kamal Haasan, which was shelved during production, because of financial issues. While the project was tried to be revived multiple times, Kamal has later stated that the story would need some changes, or a younger actor has to step into the role.
Meanwhile, Atlee backed Baththa along with his wife Priya Atlee. CE's review for the film reads, "Baththa is a wholesome story about the coming-of-age of both a boy and a gangster, said with utmost respect to both of them, giving the young boy as much complexity as films usually impart to adults and treating the gangster with as much empathy as films would a child."
