Lokesh Kanagaraj's acting debut DC from director Arun Matheswaran has quietly begun a bloodied box office run with nearly Rs 5 crore. Thanks to promising word-of-mouth and critical reviews, the action thriller has established strong opening day collections which is only expected to improve through the weekend.

On Day 1, DC collected a net of Rs 4.10 crore across 3,504 shows. This brought the total India gross collections to Rs 4.70 crore. Overseas, the film grossed a total of Rs 1 crore in gross collections, pushing its total worldwide gross collection to Rs 5.70 crore.

While the Tamil version brought in more than half of the revenue at Rs 2.60 crore, the excitement was visible among Telugu and Hindi audiences as well who contributed Rs 1.25 crore and Rs 0.25 respectively.

DC has been generating massive anticipation ever since the movie was announced, which skyrocketed after the teaser and trailer were revealed. Besides Lokesh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy play female leads. Avinash Raghudevan also portrays a key role. Anirudh, who released a 15-track album ahead of the release, has been garnering massive praise for spearheading the story through his genre-blending music.

In our CE review of the film, we had written, "It is Arun’s most accessible, entertaining, and engaging film, and it gives Lokesh Kanagaraj the safest acting debut. Lokesh is given this brooding, alcohol-friendly role where his fists and weapons do most of the talking. But he is quite effective in the quieter moments, as well, especially the scene where he has to subdue a wild Chandra after a particularly violent episode. Arun does a wonderful job with the casting as every actor proves why they deserve more chances."

DC marks Arun's fourth directorial after Rocky (2021), Saani Kaayidham (2022), and Captain Miller (2024). Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Picutres banner, DC has cinematography by Mukesh G, editing by GK Prasanna, and stunt choreography by PC Stunts.
