According to the makers of Mr X, including its director Manu Anand and cinematographer Arul Vincent, one of the highlights of the film is an underwater scene featuring Arya. Arul spoke about the sequence in an exclusive conversation with CE.
Arul said that the scene has come out beautifully in the film, although it has not been an easy process to shoot it. Arya had to go 20 feet down into a pool to film the sequence with breathing equipment and without any top wear. "It is a big deal to be 20 feet underwater controlling our breathe," the Mr X cinematographer said. According to him, what made the scene tough for Arya was that it was filmed in freezing cold water and with no jacket.
"I wore a swimsuit, but even then, I could not be underwater for that long. Once you go 10-15 feet underwater, your ears get blocked, causing much pain. You have to get used to do it. Arya is a really good swimmer, but even then, it is not an easy thing to do," the cinematographer explained.
The Director of Photographer added that Arya could pull off the scene because of his athleticism. "I saw him do it with a sense of awe," the Mr X DOP added, referring to Arya.
Besides Arya, the film stars Gautham Ram Karthik, Manju Warrier, Sarath Kumar, Anagha, Athulya, Raiza Wilson, Kaali Venkat, and Jayaprakash. On the technical front, it also has music director Dhibu Ninan Thomas, action choreographer Stunt Silva, and editor Prasanna GK.
The film opened in theatres last Friday to mixed reviews from critics. According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, it has grossed 3.58 crore from theatres in India so far.
In our Mr X review, Avinash Ramachandran wrote, "Arul Vincent's cinematography is a value-addition as the location hopping feels seamless, and each setting finds its own colour, which meshes well with the overall theme."
