MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin pay tributes to Robo Shankar

The actor, who is also a well-known mimicry artist, became a household name after his robot dances in shows became popular

Several noted film personalities have been pouring their condolences for late actor-comedian Robo Shankar who passed away on Thursday after battling multiple health issues including gastrointestinal bleed and multiorgan dysfunction. Offering his tribute, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took to his X handle to share that he was deeply saddened to know about the 46-year-old actor's death.

"Starting from stage performances, he expanded his journey into television and cinema, entertaining the people of Tamil Nadu. I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his bereaved family members and the film fraternity mourning his loss," he wrote, in a statement, according to ANI.

While Kamal Haasan, Venkat Prabhu, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, among other actors and directors took to social media to mourn over the loss, Dhanush, Vijay Antony, Sivakarthikeyan and fellow comedian Bala visited his residence to pay tribute to the departed soul and offer support to his family.

Deputy Chief Minister and former actor Udhayanidhi Stalin also went to his house to lay garlands on the mortal remains of the comedian. "Starting his journey as a stage performer, achieving success on the small screen, and entertaining Tamil audiences with his realistic humor in the film industry, Brother Robo Shankar was truly remarkable. We extend our condolences and solace to his grieving family, friends, the artistic community, and fans," he wrote on his X handle.

The actor, who is also a well-known mimicry artist, became a household name after his robot dances in shows became popular. He debuted in films with Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013). He later earned fame through his roles in Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) and Maari (2015).

He went on to star in films like Singam 3VelaikkaranKalakalappu 2Maari 2Iravin Nizhal, and Singapore Saloon. His last film role was in the recently released Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu.

Besides working in several films, Robo Shankar was also known for his TV appearances with shows like Kings of Comedy Juniors, Kanni Theevu, Sembaruthi, and Top Cooku Dupe Cooku Season 2.

He was survived by his wife Priyanka, daughter Indraja, and one grandson. Indraja is also an actor, who is known for her role in the Vijay-starrer Bigil. His last rites are set to take place at his Valasaravakkam home in Chennai on Friday.
