Mythri Movie Makers, the production banner behind the Pradeep Ranganathan-Mamitha Baiju starrer Dude, revealed a while ago that the film has grossed 66 crore from theatres worldwide over the first three days of its release. Announcing the Dude box office collection news, the makers wrote in the caption that the film has "owned the Diwali season," suggesting that it has emerged as the winner among all the films that hit theatres on the festival occasion. At the time of writing this, the film has grossed around 33 crore from theatres in India so far, according to data from the industry tracker Sacnilk.
Writer-director Keerthiswaran's film marks Mamitha Baiju's debut in Tamil cinema. It follows two cousins (Pradeep and Mamitha) who launch a new event-planning venture. As one of the cousins opens up about their romantic feelings to the other, things become complex between them.
Sarathkumar, Rohini, Hridhu Haroon, and Neha Shetty also star in the film. It hit theatres alongside Bison, starring Dhruv Vikram and Anupama Parameswaran, and Harish Kalyan-Athulya Ravi's Diesel. In our Dude movie review, Prashanth Vallavan wrote, "The film has a wacky infectious energy, and uses it to make hard-hitting commentary on social themes, but fails to leave a lasting impact."
