Andrea Jeremiah, who is currently busy promoting her latest heist film Mask, recently hinted at returning to the world of Vada Chennai with Arasan, Silambarasan's upcoming film with Vetri Maaran. In an interview with Galatta, the actor-singer confirmed that she will be meeting Silambarasan on sets. When the anchor probed her if she is joining hands with him for Vada Chennai 2 or Arasan, she smiled and said, "Let's see."

The film, previously titled STR 49, was announced as Arasan last month with a promo released in theatres for audiences and fans. While Andrea played Chandra, a key role in the 2018 film, it is not known if she will reprise the character in Arasan.

Earlier this month, Vetri Maaran revealed that he would start the production on Arasan after Kavin's Mask hits theatres. “Mask releases on November 21st, and we will start Arasan on November 24th,” the Visaranai filmmaker said. Vetri Maaran serves as a mentor for Kavin's Mask and is also one of the film's previous producers.

In true Vada Chennai (2018) fashion, Arasan is also set across two timelines, with Silambarasan playing the same character across those timelines— as a young man with a funk, and later the actor as an aged man embracing the greys. The aged man is shown to be appearing at the court for 3 murders, which he is accused of doing, where he speaks to director Nelson. Silambarasan's character tells Nelson to make his life into a film, after telling his story, and requests the director to cast Dhanush in the film. The promo ends with the line "An untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai (2018)" appearing on screen.

The film also features Anirudh's music which marks his first collaboration with Vetri Maaran. The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under his V Creations banner.

Silambarasan was originally supposed to collaborate with Vetri Maaran for Vada Chennai (2018). Dhanush later starred in the lead role as Anbu, a carrom board player, who goes on to become the leader of a community of fisherfolk, after their lives are threatened. Parallely, Anbu also becomes a gangster after false alliegances and betrayals force him to don the role. The screenplay of Arasan is an iteration of the one the filmmaker had written for Vada Chennai when Silambarasan was in line to star in it.

The makers are yet to reveal further details about the upcoming film, including its plot, rest of the cast, and technical crew. Meanwhile, Mask, directed by Vikarnan Ashok, is currently running in theatres.
