In a relief for Ravi Mohan and his production company, The Madras High Court has ruled that the title Bro Code should not be restricted from being used for his upcoming film, extending the interim order issued against Delhi-based liquor manufacturing company Indo-Spirit Beverages.

The new film, directed by Karthik Yogi of Dikkiloona fame, also features SJ Suryah, Arjun Ashokan, and Shraddha Srinath in the lead.

Ravi Mohan Studios had filed a case after the company objected to the use of the title for the film. “We have filed a contempt petition against the Delhi liquor company for acting in violation of the court’s order,” said representatives of Ravi Mohan.

The judgement was made after the Delhi HC issued an interim judgement restraining Ravi Mohan Studios from using the title after Indo-Spirit Beverages filed a lawsuit as it sells liquor under the same name. The legal tussle has been ongoing for over a month with the Madras HC earlier passing an order in favour of Ravi Mohan in connection with the same issue. Further hearing of the case has been adjourned to December 15.

Previously, Ravi Mohan alleged that the legal issue began after he refused to feature their product in Bro Code.

In a press statement issued by his team, Ravi said that representatives from the beverage company had approached him with a proposal to promote their alcoholic brand in the movie, an offer he claims to have declined. “#BroCode beverages team asked Ravi Mohan to promote their brand in the film. Ravi Mohan refused it, as it would set a wrong example,” read the note, which also stated that Ravi Mohan Studios had previously registered the Bro Code title and its artistic work under the entertainment category. He further stated that the company’s move to approach the Delhi High Court was a reaction to his refusal and accused the company of using the legal proceedings as a marketing tactic.

The film, set for release in theatres next year, also stars Sri Gouri Priya, Malavika Manoj, Upendra Limaye and Aishwarya Raj in prominent roles. A promo, which was released recently, garnered significant appreciation from audiences.

Bro Code's technical crew includes composer Harshavardhan Rameshwar of Animal and Arjun Reddy fame, cinematographer Kalaiselvan Sivaji, known for Por Thozhil, and editor Pradeep E Ragav. Costume designer Ruchi Munoth, art director Rajesh A, and stunt choreographer Mahesh Mathew are also a part of the crew.
