Director Shahad Nilambur's film Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar has had a reasonably good run in theatres, with its Malayalam version earning over 50 crore at the box office. After that, the film, starring Parvathy Thiruvothu and Vijayaraghavan, among others, had its digital premiere on Netflix. However, the film is only available in Malayalam with English subtitles on the streaming platform. On Monday, the makers of the film announced through social media that it will release in Tamil on October 23, Friday.
"The mystery crosses borders. The truth awaits its verdict," they wrote as the caption for the announcement regarding Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar in Tamil.
The critically appreciated film tells the story of a woman (Parvathy) who joins law enforcement on compassionate grounds after the passing of her husband. However, soon the woman and her colleagues' lives in the force turn into a nightmare, following a custodial death and the desperate attempts to cover it up. With a highly intelligent officer (Vijayaraghavan) hot on their trail and a potential guilty verdict looming large, the quartet must come up with out-of-the-box ideas to prove their innocence.
Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar also stars Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan, Unnimaya Prasad, Vinay Forrt, Azees Nedumangad, and Balaji Sarma. Tamil actor Parthiban also appears in an important cameo role in the film.
Critics have mostly been positive about the film, noting its gripping narrative and twists and turns and its seamless integration of comedic moments into an otherwise intense screenplay. However, some of them have also pointed out that it suffers from a 'Drishyam hangover'. Nonetheless, with more positive word of mouth coming in after the digital premiere of the film on Netflix, the makers seem to have been encouraged enough to release it in Tamil.
