On Thursday, the makers of Kumki 2 announced that the film has cleared censorship formalities with a clean 'U' certificate. The film's censorship certificate makes it an apt release for November 14, which marks Children's Day.
Helmed by Prabhu Solomon, Kumki 2 marks the debut of actor Mathi. While the Madras High Court recently ordered an interim stay on the release of the film, bookings are now open on ticket booking apps.
Shrita Rao is also introduced alongside Mathi in this Kumki sequel. Prabu Solomon is returning to direct the sequel after the critically acclaimed first part. The sequel comes 13 years after the first film was released. The upcoming film also stars Arjun Das, Andrews, Akash, Harish Peradi, and Srinath.
In an earlier interview with CE, Prabu Solomon noted that apart from the title, Kumki 2 is in no way related to the first film he made in 2012. "Kumki 2 will just not be a movie that kids will enjoy. There is something for everyone in the film. A warm and emotional film will touch everyone, children or adults," he said. The film is described as a "soulful story of friendship and trust between a man and his mighty companion".
On the technical side, Prabu Solomon is reuniting with his Sembi collaborator Nivas K Prasanna for Kumki 2's music, with lyrics by Prabu and Mohan Rajan, cinematography by M Sukumar, edits by Buvan, and art direction by Vijay Thennarasu.
Upon release, Kumki 2 opens alongside Dulquer Salmaan's Kaantha and Vivek Prasanna's Kinaru, among other films.
