The Madras High Court has ordered an interim stay on the release of director Prabu Solomon's upcoming film Kumki 2, which is slated for a release on November 14.
Film financier Chandraprakash Jain had filed a case seeking a ban on the release of the film Kumki 2. In his petition, the complainant stated that a loan amount of Rs 2.5 crore had not been repaid by the film's team, and requested a stay on the film's release until he received his payment. The case is being heard by Justice Anand Venkatesh. Further details on the issue is awaited.
Kumki 2 introduces Mathi and Shrita Rao in lead roles. Prabu Solomon is returning to direct the sequel after the critically acclaimed first part. The sequel comes 13 years after the first film was released. The upcoming film also stars Arjun Das, Andrews, Akash, Harish Peradi, and Srinath.
In an earlier interview with CE, Prabu Solomon noted that apart from the title, Kumki 2 is in no way related to the first film he made in 2012. "Kumki 2 will just not be a movie that kids will enjoy. There is something for everyone in the film. A warm and emotional film will touch everyone, children or adults," he said.
The film is described as a "soulful story of friendship and trust between a man and his mighty companion".
On the technical side, Prabu Solomon is reuniting with his Sembi collaborator Nivas K Prasanna for Kumki 2's music, with lyrics by Prabu and Mohan Rajan, cinematography by M Sukumar, edits by Buvan, art direction by Vijay Thennarasu.
