Mathi as Bhoomi and Nila, the tusker are the thickest of friends for decades in a thick jungle, but one day everything changes as forest officials joined by Arjun Das' character are determined to capture the elephant alive, or worse, even in dead form. This sets the premise of Kumki 2, directed by Prabu Solomon. The film's trailer was released on Thursday with scenes of Mathi's friendship with the elephant, their testing times and how they survive it all. The film is described as a "soulful story of friendship and trust between a man and his mighty companion" and hits theatres on November 14.

In an earlier interview with CE, Prabu Solomon, who is returning to direct the sequel after the critically acclaimed first part, mentioned that Kumki 2 will respect children and childhood. "Kids these days no longer draw a river and a mountain; instead, they draw characters with guns. That is very much reflective on how we as a society are not drawing a line on what children need to consume and what not to. Kumki 2 will take children on an adventure that often unfolds inside their heads." He also added that apart from the title, Kumki 2 is in no way related to the first film he made in 2012.

The sequel comes 13 years after the first film was released. The upcoming film also stars Shritha Rao, Andrews, Akash, Harish Peradi, and Srinath.

On the technical side, Prabu Solomon is reuniting with his Sembi collaborator Nivas K Prasanna, with lyrics by Prabu and Mohan Rajan, cinematography by M Sukumar, edits by Buvan, art direction by Vijay Thennarasu
