Composer Jakes Bejoy, who has been basking under the limelight for his work in the the latest Malayalam hit Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, scored the background score of Dulquer Salmaan's upcoming period film Kaantha. Ahead of its release on November 14, Jakes Bejoy has now called the director of the film, Selvamani Selvaraj, as Tamil cinema's "new visionary director".
Taking to his X timeline to pen his thoughts on the film, which is to hit screens on November 14, Jakes Bejoy wrote, "Honoured to have contributed to the background score of Kaantha. Selvamani Selvaraj has arrived and boy, he’s here to stay…Tamil cinema has a new visionary director and I say this with confidence. Kaantha has probably some of the career best performance from the lead cast especially Dq, Samuthirakani Anna, Raana brother and Bhagyashri."
Apart from the above-mentioned lead actors, Kaantha also features Ravindra Vijay, Nizhalgal Ravi, Bagavathi Perumal and Bijesh Nagesh in key roles. The film is jointly produced by Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan under their Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films banners respectively. Kaantha, which marks a comeback into Tamil cinema for Dulquer after 2022's Hey Sinamika, reportedly revolves around the rise and fall of M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, who was widely regarded as Tamil cinema's first superstar.
The film's technical team includes cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez, editor Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez, composer Jhanu Chanthar, and art director Ramalingam. Thamizh Prabha serves as its additional dialogue writer and story consultant, as well as additional screenwriter along with Sri Harsha Rameshwaram.
Kaantha hits theatres on November 14 where it will clash with Kumki 2 and Madharas Mafia Company at the box office. The re-release of Cheran's Autograph is also scheduled to hit theatres on the same day.
Meanwhile, Lokah has been receiving rave reviews even after its OTT release. While the first film revolved around Chandra's character as Kalliyankattu Neeli, the sequel will be headlined by Tovino Thomas' character as Chathan. It is to be noted that Lokah also featured Dulquer as Charlie, an Odiyan. He served as the film's producer. Jakes Bejoy will also be composing music for Dulquer's upcoming film I'm Game.
