Mani Ratnam, who last helmed Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan, is reportedly set to collaborate with Vijay Sethupathi and Rukmini Vasanth for his next. If the reports are true, the collaboration will mark the director's reunion with the actor after the 2018 film, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. The official announcement for the film is awaited.

Vijay Sethupathi recently starred alongside Rukmini Vasanth in Ace, which marked the latter's Tamil debut. Previously, back in August, speculations were rife that Mani Ratnam was roping in Dhruv Vikram along with Rukmini for his next. As per reports, the film is a cop love drama, with Dhruv expected to portray the role of the police officer. It is still unclear whether this story is now being adapted with Vijay Sethupathi or if that is a completely different film.

After Ace, Rukmini Vasanth was seen alongside Sivakarthikeyan in Madharaasi. She was last seen in Kantara: Chapter 1, co-starring Rishab Shetty. She is currently busy filming for Jr NTR’s NTR 31

Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in Thalaivan Thalaivii alongside Nithya Menen. In the pipeline, he has Mysskin's Train and an untitled film with Puri Jagannadh. He can currently be seen on the weekends on television hosting the 9th season of Bigg Boss Tamil.

Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life hit theatres on June 5 and opened to underwhelming reviews. The film marks the filmmaker’s collaboration with the veteran actor 38 years after Nayakan. Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, and many more, the film is currently available to stream on Netflix.  Mani Ratnam's Nayakan is currently running in theatres, re-released to mark the birthday of Kamal Haasan.
