Mani Ratnam, who recently saw the release of Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan, is reportedly set to collaborate with Dhruv Vikram and Rukmini Vasanth for his next. As per reports, the film is a cop love drama, with Dhruv expected to portray the role of the police officer. The official announcement for the film is awaited.

While some reports have suggested that the film is set to go on floors in September, with a wrap scheduled in February, some other reports reveal that the film will only commence shooting in November. It is to be noted that Dhruv Vikram’s next film, Bison Kaalamaadan, is scheduled for release on October 17, during the Deepavali festival. So speculations are rife that Dhruv will join the shoot for Mani Ratnam’s film after the release of this film.

Rukmini Vasanth, who made her Tamil debut with Ace, is all set to be seen in Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharasi on September 5, marking her sophomore Tamil outing. If reports are to be believed, this film will mark her third Tamil film. She is currently busy filming for Jr NTR’s NTR 31

AR Rahman, Mani Ratnam’s consistent collaborator since Roja, is said to be the composer for this upcoming film as well. Speculatively, Ravi K Chandran will crank the camera for the film. Details about the film, cast and crew are yet to be officially announced by Mani Ratnam. 

Mani Ratnam has previously collaborated with Dhruv Vikram’s father, actor Vikram, in Raavanan and recently in both parts of Ponniyin Selvan. Dhruv Vikram made his debut with Adithya Varma and later also starred in Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan alongside his father. His upcoming film, Bison Kaalamaadan, is helmed by Mari Selvaraj and also stars Anupama Parameswaran. He also has a film with director Ramesh Varma in the pipeline.

Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life hit theatres on June 5 and opened to underwhelming reviews. The film marks the filmmaker’s collaboration with the veteran actor 38 years after Nayakan. Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Silambarasan, Trisha, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, and many more, the film is currently available to stream on Netflix.
