Dhruv Vikram recently met ace-kabaddi player Karthika, who served as the vice-captain of the U-18 women's kabaddi team during the recent youth Asian Games where they won the gold medal. The actor praised her performance and gifted her a present as well as a gold coin. Filmmaker Mari Selvaraj had also met her and her team at Kannagi Nagar in Chennai, where she hails from, and gifted her with a cheque of Rs 5 lakh each to Karthika and the Kannagi Nagar Kabaddi team. He presented it on behalf of Neelam Studios, Applause Entertainment, and Bison team.
The 17-year-old recently broke stereotypes and stigma, clinching gold at the Asian Youth Games, and becoming a symbol of hope for her community. Fondly called as ‘Karthika Express’, the team won against Iran at the games in Bahrain. Karthika has never shied away from mentioning where she comes from, and recently earned praise for reiterating the same when she was warmly received by her community after winning the games.
Mari Selvaraj and Dhruv Vikram recently collaborated on Bison, a sports drama, also based on Kabaddi. The film is inspired from the life and struggles of Arjuna award-winning Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan. It also features Anupama Parameshwaran, Lal, Ameer, Pasupathi, and Rajisha Vijayan in key roles.
The film earned rave reviews from audiences and critics upon release on October 17. Our CE review of the film read, "Bison is Mari Selvaraj’s most violent to date, and it is beautiful how the gore and bloodshed aren’t at the hands of the protagonist but everywhere around him. It is a terrific exploration of the aftermath of violence and its unsettling consequences in the minds of the young and easily influenced."
