Two decades after it first captured hearts, Cheran’s award-winning classic Autograph is returning to theatres. The romantic drama, which originally released on February 20, 2004, will be re-released on November 14, allowing audiences to relive one of Tamil cinema’s most beloved films.
Initially slated for a re-release in May this year, the film’s comeback was later postponed. Now, 21 years since its debut, Autograph is all set to make its way back to the big screen. The film has also been fully digitally remastered for the re-release.
Written, directed, and headlined by Cheran, the film follows Senthil Kumar, an advertising executive who embarks on a nostalgic train journey to invite friends and family to his wedding. Along the way, memories of his past loves resurface, taking him and the audience through a poignant exploration of love, loss, and time.
The film’s ensemble cast features Gopika, Sneha, Mallika, and Kaniha, each portraying a defining chapter in Senthil’s life. Autograph struck a universal chord upon release and went on to become both a critical and commercial success.
Its emotional storytelling and evocative music earned it three National Film Awards, for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Female Playback Singer, and Best Lyrics. The film was also remade in Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali, further cementing its cross-regional appeal.
Produced by Dream Theatres, Autograph featured cinematography by Ravi Varman, Vijay Milton, Dwarakanath, and Shanky Mahendran, with editing by S Sathesh and J N Harsha. Bharadwaj composed the memorable songs, while the background score was by Sabesh-Murali.
