AR Murugadoss is returning to Tamil cinema after five years with Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi and the anticipation surrounding the action film has been quietly increasing leading up to the release date.

After many weeks, the makers had announced that the film's first single promo will be unveiled on Tuesday, July 29. The update was dropped with a poster of Anirudh which featured a backdrop full of TVs. Eagle-eyed fans quickly spotted several easter eggs in the TV where several shots of Sivakarthikeyan were seen — each hinting at a peppy dance number from the star. But that was not all. Right behind Anirudh was a photo of Sai Abhyankkar too, suggesting a potential collaboration with the rising composer. However, the news will only be confirmed when the promo drops.

Madharaasi is described as a "massive action" film. The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vikranth, Vidyut Jammwal, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Biju Menon in prominent roles.

Produced under the Sri Lakshmi Movies banner, the film's technical crew also includes cinematographer Sudeep Elamon, and editor A Sreekar. The plot details for the film have not been disclosed. Besides Tamil, Madharaasi will also be released in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi on September 5. The Hindi version of the film has been titled Dil Madharaasi.

Meanwhile Sai Abhyankkar has a strong line-up of projects with A-listers across the South Indian industry: Raghava Lawrence's Benz, Suriya's Karuppu, Silambarasan's STR 49, Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude, Atlee's AA22xA6, Shane Nigam's Balti and Karthi's Marshal.
