Noted producer and distributor G Dhananjayan responded to Vishal's recent request to prohibit YouTube reviewers for the first three days of a film's release and said reviewers are essential to make a movie be seen by wider audience. "If these reviews don't come out, people won't even know if a film has released. We can't ask for that. We need reviews for films irrespective of the space, be it inside theatres, or outside," he said, requesting reviewers to write about films in a balanced and supportive way.
"There are five to ten films releasing every week in Tamil cinema and the responsibility to save them lie in your hands as well. Please think about the producers and the impact they would face. If you say something damaging, they would face huge losses. This request is not just for reviewers, but also for audiences who watch the film and give their reviews after exiting the theatre," he added during the audio launch of GV Prakash's Blackmail. Dhananjayan also asked people to refrain from writing or giving reviews that target producers or directors with vengeance.
It was during the trailer and audio launch of Red Flower that actor, producer, and General Secretary of Nadigar Sangam, Vishal, placed the request to the media and the Exhibitors Association (theatre owners), urging YouTube audience reviewers to refrain from recording public reviews within theatre premises for the first three days (at least the first 12 shows). "They are, of course, welcome to share their own reviews or gather audience reactions outside the theatres. Every film deserves a fair window to breathe, and the first 12 shows are the bare minimum for that," the actor said.
Apart from GV Prakash, Teju Ashwini stars as the female lead of Blackmail. Srikanth, Bindu Madhavi, Muthukumar, Redin Kingsley, Ramesh Thilak, Hari Priya, and other notable actors play key roles in the film.
Produced by A Deivakani and Jayakkodi Amalraj under the JDS Film Factory, Blackmail promises to be a gripping thriller that will have "unexpected twists and turns." The technical team of Blackmail includes composer, Sam CS, editor San Lokesh, and cinematographer Gokul Benoy, known for his work on the recent Jiiva-starrer Black.
Blackmail is scheduled to release in theatres on August 1.
