Saroja Devi was like another mother to me: Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan took to social media to reminisce about his time with late actress Saroja Devi. The actress passed away in the early hours of July 14, due to age-related health issues, at her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Kamal appeared as a child artist alongside Saroja Devi in A Bhimsingh's Parthal Pasi Theerum (1962).

On X Kamal wrote, "At any point in my life, with fingers that would pinch me cheeks, and with a voice that would exclaim, 'My dear son!', Saroja Devi Amma was like a mother to me. An artist who lived beyond the limits of language and geography has passed away." On his experiences on the sets of Parthal Pasi Theerum, Kamal wrote, "From the sets of my second film, Paarthal Pasi Theerum, to countless unforgettable memories are coursing through my heart. My eyes are welling up. A motherly figure who always wished to see me foremost. I bow down as she moves on to a better place."

Directed by A Bhimsingh and written by Tirulokchandar, Paarthal Pasi Theerum, starred Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Savitri, and Sowcar Janaki, besides Saroja Devi and Kamal.

Making her debut with the Kannada film, Mahakavi Kalidasa, Saroja Devi went on to act in films like Thangamalai Ragasiyam (1957), Panduranga Mahatyam (1958), Nadodi Mannan (1960), Iruvar Ullam (1963), Thaimel Aanai (1988), and Parambariyam (1993), with Aadhavan (2009), being her last starring role.
