Sudha Kongara is one of the few woman directors in Tamil cinema in the modern era. But her road to attaining success was filled with many hurdles including prejudice.

In an interview with Gopinath, the director spoke about the time when she was underestimated because she was a woman. "20-25 years ago, when I eagerly tried to pitch a story to a big director, the only thing I heard back was that I wouldn't be able to make a proper film, and that I would only know to make a 'chick flick'. Ladies do not know how to make films, was something that the actor said."

The director also said that with the films that she gets to make with big stars, after she has passed over those barriers is something that she revels in everyday.

Sudha Kongara's upcoming film, Parasakthi, which stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, is set to release on January 10. The film is the 25th as a lead for Sivakarthikeyan, and the 100th as music composer for GV Prakash Kumar.
