Vijay Sethupathi, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming series Kaattaan, has opened up about how the project nudged him toward taking on the role of producer. In an interview cited by IANS, the actor shared that working on the show strengthened his belief that he could back films himself. “Kaattaan gave me the confidence to produce a film,” he said, adding that the experience has encouraged him to pursue more projects in this space.

Reflecting on what drew him to the series, Vijay Sethupathi praised the writing, calling it one of the show’s strongest elements. “The writing was excellent. It deals with the purpose of life. I really enjoyed being a part of it,” he said. The series, previously titled Muthu Engira Kaatan, is described as a layered and gritty character study centred on a mysterious protagonist whose identity shifts depending on who narrates his story; to some he appears monstrous, to others mythical or miraculous.

Directed by M Manikandan, Kaattaan also stars Milind Soman in a key role and will stream on JioHotstar. The project marks another collaboration between Sethupathi and Manikandan, who earlier worked together on Kadaisi Vivasayi and Aandavan Kattalai. While Sethupathi has featured in Hindi web content such as Farzi, Kaattaan brings him back to long-form storytelling in the South after nearly two decades. His last appearance in a Tamil serial was Penn in 2006, in which he played Bharani.

Vijay Sethupathi, last seen in Thalaivan Thalaivii with Nithya Menen, has a packed slate ahead. He is currently filming Vetrimaaran’s Arasan, set in the Vada Chennai universe and marking Silambarasan’s 49th film. His upcoming releases also include Train, directed by Mysskin, and a project with Puri Jagannadh. The actor continues to appear on television as the host of Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9.
