Rajinikanth fans are in for a treat on December 12, the actor's birthday, as both Annaamalai (as earlier announced) and now Padaiyappa are set to hit theatres again. Unconfirmed reports have been claiming that it would release again on Rajinikanth's birthday this year. A while ago, the actor's filmmaker daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth confirmed the Padaiyappa rerelease date through a social media post. The film is releasing again in theatres as Rajinikanth's fans and followers are celebrating the actor's 50-year-long journey in cinema. "Celebrating 50 years of our Thalaivar’s unmatched supremacy A journey of pure style, swagger, and timeless stardom," Soundarya wrote as the caption for her post. She went on to add, "As the world celebrates our Thalaivar Rajinikanth… my dearest appa, We are proud to bring back the phenomenon Padaiyappa... A film that became a festival." She also promised a "grand reveal tomorrow" and that "This celebration will be bigger, brighter, and unforgettable."

Directed by KS Ravikumar, Padaiyappa tells the story of rivalry between Rajinikanth's titular character and his vengeful relative, Neelambari, played by Ramya Krishnan. Padaiyappa's rejection of Neelambari's declaration of love for him makes her jealous and develop enmity against him, causing her to plot vengeful schemes to tarnish his and his family's reputation. The film also stars Sivaji Ganesan, Soundarya, Lakshmi, Sithara, Radha Ravi, and Manivannan, among others.

It is celebrated for the intense altercations between Rajinikanth and Ramya Krishnan's characters as well as the former's mass heroism. Who can forget the scene where Rajinikanth wraps his shawl around an iron chain to pull down a wooden swing from the ceiling and make it drop right in front of Ramya's character? Here is your chance to relive all such mass moments and a lot more from the film as it releases again on the actor's birthday this December.
