Rajinikanth fans are in for a treat later this year, as his 1992 film Annaamalai is releasing again in theatres on the actor's birthday, December 12. Rakesh Gowthaman, Proprietor at Vettri Theatres in Chrompet, made the announcement with an Annaamalai rerelease poster. According to the poster, the film from director Suresh Krissna will hit theatres again in a 4K Ultra HD format.
A remake of Rakesh Roshan's Khudgarz, the film tells the story of two childhood friends, a milk delivery person (Rajinikanth) and an affluent businessperson's son (Sarath Babu). The latter's father (Radha Ravi) shows his disinterest in the friendship between the two and tries to form a disagreement between them that would end it forever.
Annaamalai is one of the most significant films in Rajinikanth's career. The film is still memorable for its seamless plotting, wholesome entertainment values, and the actor's trademark mass moments, including that iconic walk into a boardroom. It is also the first film to carry the now-iconic 'Super Star' title card for Rajinikanth that would go on to become a signature element in the actor's films since then. The film also stars Khushboo in the female lead. Its cast includes Nizhalgal Ravi, Rekha, Manorama, Prabhakar, and Janagaraj, among others.
