There has been high excitement and expectations surrounding Rajinikanth's upcoming film Coolie, so much that theatres have recorded smashing box-office numbers from pre-sales bookings. And if the film does well, a sequel too may be on cards.

During a promotional event ahead of its release organised by Spotify to celebrate the Hindi album launch, composer Anirudh hinted at a potential sequel. "I hope there's a Coolie 2. The past one and a half years that we have worked on this film have been so magical, especially the positive vibes from everyone on set, including the legends," he said, further adding, "We finished the final mix just last evening, and when Lokesh and I took a picture and posted it, we both felt quite emotional. As a fan, I can't wait to watch the first day first show of Coolie. I know we can't get this time back again.. but I also really hope the film does great and we reunite for Coolie 2."

With Anirudh leaving breadcrumbs for a sequel, Deva might return for another Lokesh Kanagaraj film. However, an official confirmation will only arrive when multiple factors allign for the film. A cliffhanger for Coolie or a post credits scene could leave room for a new story to grow.

Rajinikanth had earlier joined the sets of Jailer 2 and work on the Nelson Dilipkumar film is going on in full swing. Anirudh is once again returning to compose music for the sequel.

Meanwhile, Coolie, scheduled to hit theatres on August 14, boasts an ensemble cast consisting of Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan and Aamir Khan, among others.

On the technical front, Coolie has action choreography by Anbariv, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan, editing by Philomin Raj, choreography by Sandy, and production design by Sathees Kumar.
