It has been a few days since actor Nayanthara penned her frustration in an open letter addressed to Dhanush for not giving her an NOC (no objection certificate) for using clips and videos from her film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary Nayanthara Beyond The Fairy Tale. The Raayan actor had allegedly sent a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in compensation for three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage. Now, Nayanthara has released another letter thanking her co-stars, veteran actors, producers and other people from the industry for granting her NOCs "without any hesitation or delay."
In her three-page letter, she wrote, "Every film I have worked on, holds immense significance in my life, as my journey in cinema is filled with countless joyful moments. Among these, many films are especially close to my heart and I wished to include those memories and scenes in our documentary. When I approached the following producers to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOCs), they granted them without hesitation or delay. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of them."
Nayanthara thanked Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan with whom she was associated in the 2023 film Jawan, SRK's wife Gauri and their banner Red Chillies Entertainment. From the Tamil film industry, she expressed her gratitude to K Balachander, Udhayanidhi Stalin, KE Gnanavel Raja, AR Murugadoss, Kalpathi S Aghoram, Archana Kalpathi, SR Prabhu, Shibu Thameens, and A Sarkunam, among others. She also thanked actors Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, producers D Siva Prasad Reddy, and Yalamanchali Saibabu from the Telugu film industry. In the Malayalam industry, where she made her film debut, she thanked Abdul Hameed Muhammed Fazil, NB Vindhyan, Houli Potoor, and Maha Subair.
She concluded by saying, "Thank you for sharing a slice of my most professional moments. Your unwavering support during moments like these deeply moves me. I will always cherish this kindness with immense gratitude. May our journey together continue, always, finding happiness in other people’s happiness."
In her letter on Saturday, November 16, Nayanthara revealed that her team had spent two years persistently trying to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush, who refused to approve the use of even photographs or lyrics from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. “Your refusal… broke my heart,” she wrote, suggesting that his decision stemmed from personal grievances rather than business or legal compulsions. “If it were about business or monetary issues, I might understand. But this feels like a deliberate attempt to vent a personal grudge,” she wrote, referencing harsh words Dhanush allegedly said before the release of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
She stated that the clips in question were from personal devices and had been publicly shared on social media in the past. “Cinema is a fight for survival for people like me, who are self-made,” she wrote, highlighting her journey in the industry without influential connections. She accused Dhanush of harbouring "vengeance" against the documentary and her personal life, emphasising that his actions affected not just her and Vignesh Shivan but also the numerous people who worked on the project.
In response, Dhanush and his legal team had taken a firm stand, demanding that the actor either remove the clip from the documentary or settle the matter financially. As per a report on FPJ, a statement from Dhanush's lawyer reads, "We advise your client to remove the content infringing on our client's copyright related to Naanum Rowdy Dhaan from the documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale within 24 hours. Should your client fail to do so, we will have no option but to pursue legal action, including seeking damages of Rs 10 crore from both your client and Netflix India."
The statement further contested Nayanthara’s claims, asserting that Dhanush's team was fully aware of the film’s production details, including the behind-the-scenes footage. The legal team also challenged the actor's statement that no one had been authorised to shoot the BTS content, labelling it as baseless and insisting that she be held accountable for the same.
Nayanthara is yet to provide a response to his legal team regarding the same.
Nayanthara's documentary Nayanthara Beyond The Fairy Tale is now available to stream on Netflix.
